So what does that really mean? It means more money in your hands every month. For many pensioners—especially those in lower pay grades—this could be the financial relief you’ve been waiting for.

How Will the Pension Be Calculated Under the 8th Pay Commission?

Let’s take a quick look back. Under the 7th Pay Commission, pensions were calculated using a 2.57 fitment factor. That means your previous basic pension was multiplied by 2.57 to get your new one.

For the 8th Pay Commission, the fitment factor could be between 1.92 and 2.28—a little less than the last time, but still a major improvement from your current pension.

When Will the 8th Pay Commission Actually Kick In?

Here’s the deal—it won’t be instant.

The official recommendations from the 8th Pay Commission are expected after December 2025, but actual implementation may happen in 2026 or later.

The process involves:

  • Creating a detailed report with inputs from various employee groups and departments
  • Cabinet review and approval
  • Then finally, rollout

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 8th Pay Commission confirmed?

No, not yet. But it’s highly likely to come into effect after the 7th Pay Commission ends in December 2025.

Will the pension increase for everyone?

Yes, but the amount depends on your current pay grade and the final fitment factor the government approves (likely between 1.92 to 2.28).

What if the fitment factor is higher than 2.28?

That would be even better. Some organisations are suggesting up to 3.86, but that’s very optimistic. Right now, 1.92 and 2.28 are the most talked-about.

Do I need to apply for the pension increase?

No. Like previous pay commissions, the pension revisions will be automatically applied once approved.

  1. Fitment Factor should be above 3.0 because next payy revision will take place after a long time i.e., in 10-12 years . Further Rule of 20 percent increase in pension after 80 years of age is also meaning less .Modi Govt must see the welfare of the Central Govt employees and pensioners.

  2. Now the minimum pension is 9000 where as higher officers pension is in Lakhs . What a great difference in pension ? FMA is also very less which is not at all sufficient to present medical expenses. In last 10 years total DA not crossed 55 percent . What a shameful thing .

  4. What about the status of existing DA in the 8thcpc?
Whether it will be added after multiplying the fitment factor into basic pay/pension?

  5. Your comparison table above is misleading. If you add DA, the actual enhancement of pension will be negligible. Pl know the subject fully before writing any article

  9. There should be a equality in pension. Some one is getting two lac and other is twenty thousand only. This differance is too much. This may be equalised. According to there life style. Higher pension shoul not be increased and lesser must be increased. To bring socialism this must be done
